Hand-turned Fine Pens
I grew up in the Pacific Northwest and have always enjoyed the diversity of trees in the local forests. Each species has its own unique characteristics, colors and grain patterns. Studying how the tree grew, how the branches formed, noting the trunk size and overall shape gives me a glimpse into how a piece, once turned, will look. I’m always looking for that perfect tree, that perfect piece of wood to incorporate into my turnings. There are many sources of wood here in Portland and the surrounding area. It’s both challenging and rewarding to create something useful and interesting while re-purposing something that might otherwise go to waste.
